It is a simple, inexpensive activity that transforms the letter detection into a fun and interactive game. You can also adapt it to grow with your child’s skills – Practice Letter -Matching, Spelling and even early words. Let’s start!
What you need
A Large piece of cardboard or
A Marker or painting pen
26 small toy cars (Hot bikes, match box or small vehicles)
Optional: Colored adhesive tape or sticker For additional decoration
Instructions
Step 1: Draw the parking lot
First grab your box and draw a parking space with 26 seats – one for every letter of the alphabet. Make sure that the rooms are large enough for the cars, but not so big that you slide around. You can even add some street lines or signs if you want to be particularly creative!
Step 2: Add the letters
Now write a letter to each parking lot from A to Z. You can use in capital letters, small letters or a mixture of both, depending on the level of your child’s ability level.
Step 3: label the cars
Take your toy cars and write a suitable letter on everyone. You can write it on the roof, hood or side of the car – whatever works best. Would you like to make it more colors? Use different colors for vowels and consonants!
Time to play!
Letter – Let your child match each car with the right parking space by finding the right letter.
Spell your name – ask them to park the cars to spell their names (or a friend’s name).
Alphabet Order Race – Set a timer and see how quickly you can park all cars from A to Z!
